Is the gift of tongues still alive in the church

Posted in Theology, Uncategorized at 7:24 pm by Debbie Mosley

It would be a mistake for evangelicals to forbid others to speak in tongues … That doesn’t mean that a person who is building a major part of his faith on something that is so … downplayed by Paul should be called to be your pastor,” Patterson said.

Dr Patterson is the president of Southwestern Theoligical Seminary in Ft Worth.

SWBTS did a chapel service with Dr. McKissic from Arlington. He spoke that he has a private prayer language. The seminary decided not to podcast his messege over the internet because most baptists don’t believe tongues still exist. (more)

Update:

D. Mckissic and W. Burleson had a conference last week. Read about what happened here

“We’re not even aware of anyone attempting to forcibly implant microchips into people,” says Albrecht. “That lawmakers felt this legislation was necessary indicates a growing concern that the company’s product could pose a serious threat to the public down the road.”  more

Endtimes

On July 31, CNN’s Paula Zahn Now featured a segment on “whether the crisis in the Middle East is actually a prelude to the end of the world,” marking the third time in eight days that CNN has devoted airtime to those claiming that the ongoing Mideast violence signals the coming of the Apocalypse. The segment included a report from CNN correspondent Delia Gallagher, which showed video clips of Christian author Joel C. Rosenberg comparing apocalyptic Scripture in the Bible to modern events. Yet even though Gallagher noted during her report that “some Armageddon believers” think recently passed legislation — such as the Real ID Act — are “taking the world a step closer to the End Times,” neither Gallagher nor Zahn mentioned Rosenberg’s assertion on the July 26 edition of CNN’s Live From … that he has “been invited to the White House, [and] Capitol Hill” to explain the current Middle East conflict “through the lens of biblical prophecies.”

SEOUL, South Korea – Three world church bodies made an unprecedented move in ecumenical history on Sunday when Lutherans, Roman Catholics and Methodists signed a joint agreement on justification.

Sven Oppegaard, Dr. Ishmael Noko, Dr. George H. Freeman, His Eminence Sunday Mbang, Cardinal Walter Kasper and Cardinal Soo-Hwan Kim sign the joint agreement on justification in front of thousands of Methodists.

“We plowed new ground today,” commented Dr. George H. Freeman, general secretary of the World Methodist Council. “This opens the door for future ecumenical relationships.”

Following years and even decades of dialogue with one another, the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), the Roman Catholic Church, and the World Methodist Council took part in what Dr. Ishmael Noko, LWF general secretary, identified as “a new ecumenical landmark” and what will go down in history.

“You’re at a historic and significant moment here this Sunday,” Geoffrey Wainwright, a professor at Duke University Divinity School, told the thousands of Methodists who witnessed the historic event. “When they put pen to text, something will have changed.”

Two representatives from each of the three church bodies inked the agreement with their signatures, enlarging ecumenical dialogue and relationships and achieving a significant new step in reconciliation.

Child Custody Protection Act Faces Conference Roadblock

Posted in Ethics & Morals, Uncategorized at 6:02 pm by Debbie Mosley

Written By Richard Land

In a move to protect the right of parents to be involved in their pregnant daughter’s decisions, the Senate passed the Child Custody Protection Act (S. 403) by a 65-34 vote on Wednesday. Under S. 403, it would be a federal offense to transport a minor across state lines for an abortion without fulfilling the requirements of the parental notification or consent law in her home state.

Last year, by a 270-157 vote, the House passed the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act, which contains different but related provisions. Unlike the Senate bill, the House measure sets out a national parental notification law. It would require a physician who performs an abortion on a minor from another state to notify her parent before the procedure. (more)

I don’t understand why these guys are so ignorant. Then, we have the nation that opposes the measure. The one question I have is why would someone in the church take a girl out of state for an abortion unless they are the guilty party?
